Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha
First thing first lets talk about the origin of these two houses of democracy in India. Article 81 and 80 of Indian Constitution finds mention of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively. The names, ‘Lok Sabha’ &’ ‘Rajya Sabha’ were adopted in 1954 by the Indian Parliament.
The members of Lok Sabha are directly elected by people and it is also known as the Lower House. Whereas the members of Rajya Sabha are not directly elected by people and it is also called as Upper House. Lok Sabha is also known as the House of People and the Rajya Sabha is known as the Council of States

| The term of Lok Sabha is of five years. The Lok Sabha dissolves after this time. | Whereas the Rajya Sabha is a permanent house and never dissolves. However after every two years 1/3rd of its members get retired. |
| It is called as House of People. Since its members get elected directly by people through voting. | It is called as council of States. Since the members of this house represents the respective states, and its members get elected through indirect election. |
| The speaker of Lok Sabha is elected from its members only. | In Rajya Sabha the Vice President of India is the Chairman of this upper House of the Parliament. |
| The Council of Ministers are responsible only to Lok Sabha. | The Council of Ministers are not responsible to Rajya Sabha, even though a minister could be MP of Rajya Sabha. |
| Money Bill under Article 110 can only be introduced in Lok Sabha | Money Bill cannot be introduced in Rajya Sabha. But after its approval from Lok Sabha, it is sent to Rajya Sabha, for consideration. |
| By above points it is understood that the Lok Sabha is more powerful than the Rajya Sabha. | The Rajya Sabha is less powerful than the Lok Sabha. |
